The installation of a gas meter is one of the requirements that apply to the gasification of real estate. This procedure is not particularly difficult if you know the rules for choosing the device and the sequence of work. This event can only be held with the permission of the management company, and this implies the need for a package of documents.
Documents for installing a gas meter
In accordance with changes in the legislation, from 01.01.2019, owners of apartments and private houses are required to install gas meters in individual meters. The list of organizations having the right to work with gas equipment is determined by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 410 of 05/14/13. Clients can choose a contractor themselves if the conditions of the current contract allow it.
When choosing a company, it is recommended to pay attention to such aspects:
- a license to install meters;
- experience in this area;
- warranties for work and equipment.
Low tariffs should be more alarming than pleasing. This may be evidence of low qualifications of employees or the use of substandard materials.
The application is submitted to the office of the company, the following documents must be attached to it:
- identification;
- certificate of ownership or lease;
- technical passport of metering device;
- scheme of an apartment or house;
- receipt of payment confirming the absence of debt.
Copies of documents should be made in advance so as not to waste time in the office.
Gas meter device
Purchasing a controller is the responsibility of the customer. It is recommended to buy it at retail outlets taking into account operating conditions and estimated gas consumption.
The following models of meters are presented in the distribution network:

The purchase of the meter should be agreed with the management company. If for some parameters it does not meet the technical conditions, the connection will be refused.
For a correct decision, the following criteria should be taken into account:
- Throughput.According to the indicators m³ / h, the products are divided into models 2.5, 4, 6, 8 and 16. As the initial data, one can take the flow rate of 1.5 m³ / h from the stove and 2.5-4 m³ / h from the double-circuit boiler.
- Place of installation. If it is planned to put the device on the street, it must be equipped with a temperature compensator, which ensures operation in severe frosts and at high temperatures.
- Thread size. If necessary, conical adapters are purchased for combining pipes with a device having technological holes of a larger diameter.
- Connection option. Various models of controllers are installed in vertical or horizontal orientation with input from the bottom, top or side.
When buying, you should check the expiration date of the device. According to the current rules, it is not counted from the moment of commissioning, but from the date of manufacture.
Norms for choosing a place for the counter
Correct installation of a gas meter in an apartment requires compliance with safety measures and ensuring comfortable conditions for its operation. As a rule, the meter is installed in the room where the fuel consumers are located. In private houses, its installation on the street under a canopy, in a lockable metal cabinet, is permitted. The choice of place is provided to the owner of the property, provided that it complies with the provisions of SNiP 42-01-2002 and SP 42-101-2003.
With respect to the location of the metering device, the following distance requirements apply:
- from the stove - 80 cm;
- from the floor - 160 cm;
- from the wall - 5 cm;
- from heating appliances - 100 cm;
- from the window - 50 cm.
The controller cannot be located above the sink or bathtub. All runs must be strictly vertical and horizontal. When installing indoors, it is necessary to equip effective natural or forced ventilation.
Mounting Features
In apartments, meters are installed on branches coming from a common riser. As a rule, they pass through kitchens, where consumers are installed - stoves, boilers and columns. Subject to current standards and restrictions, it is allowed to place devices in hanging cabinets subject to free access and sufficient strength of wall mounts. In most cases, decent masters during installation customize the location of the device for interior elements.
In private homes it is allowed to install appliances on external walls. At the same time, it is not allowed that an electric line passes nearby or a passage for a vehicle is located. For the convenience of taking readings, one key is transferred to the management company.
Is it possible to put the gas meter yourself
To save time and money, the property owner can install the accounting device with his own hands. This procedure is simple, for its implementation it is enough to have a set of ordinary household tools, including for welding and making threads on pipes. It is possible to carry out installation work only after coordination, manufacture and receipt of technical conditions.
Connection is allowed to be carried out on an empty system before it is put into operation or after gas shutoff in a communication connected to a common trunk. In this case, an independent installation must be agreed in advance with the management company. This condition must be spelled out in the contract. However, one circumstance must be taken into account. If at least one rule is violated, you will have to pay twice - for dismantling the wrong design and subsequent assembly. This may seem unfair, but this is the order.
Sealing and verification
Installation of a gas meter involves its subsequent check for tightness of the connection and operability.First, air is displaced from the pipeline to prevent the occurrence of shock loads on the controller mechanisms. To do this, open the taps at the inlet and outlet, and then shut off when the gas begins to exit. After that, even with the feed turned on, the device is checked for leaks. This is done with a brush and a soap solution applied to the compounds. The absence of bubbles indicates that the work is done quality.
The next step is to seal the meter. Without this operation, the device cannot be used legally. The master passes wire or fishing line through the technological holes, leads into the seal, and then conducts sealing. On the seal there is an identifier containing service information. It is strictly forbidden to tear the stigma yourself, it is subject to a large fine.

Terms of Use
During operation, it is not allowed to make any changes in the communication related to the removal of the controller, pipe transfer and tearing of the seal. Do not place heating devices, combustible objects near the appliance, use the counter as a shelf or support for a wall cabinet. It is also forbidden to cover the appliance with deaf plasterboard or plastic walls, even with a viewing window.
All that a property owner must do is periodically clean the device from contamination and prevent unauthorized persons from entering it.
