Heating with air conditioning is much more profitable than using other sources of heat for space heating. But not every air conditioner does this efficiently and safely. The operation of the air conditioner for heating depends on the air temperature in the street.
The best indicators of heating with air conditioning are achieved during the off-season. When the outdoor temperature is not too low, the heating efficiency is 20 - 250% higher than in cold weather.
And air conditioners that are not equipped with an inverter and a winter kit most often burn out when starting in cold weather.
Can an air conditioner heat at -20 degrees? Or is it fantastic?
Heating is not an inverter air conditioner
From the moment of switching on, sections of high and low pressure created by the compressor are formed in the cold track. When pumping refrigerant from low pressure areas, the compressor operates with overload, as well as moving it to high pressure areas.
Thus, when a room is heated with air conditioning, all nodes operate at maximum load: at the highest resistance, temperature and pressure. As soon as the compressor stops, the pressure in all areas becomes the same. Cold oil, which moves along with the refrigerant through pipes, often causes compressor damage. Therefore, starting the unit immediately after shutting down is very dangerous.
The winter set mitigates the situation somewhat, preventing overcooling and freezing of the freon track. However, in this case, the operation of the air conditioner for heating is only possible up to -10 degrees outside.
Inverter air conditioning heating efficiency
To eliminate the negative consequences of working at low temperatures, a new compressor control system using an inverter was created. Here, the compressor only switches to low revs without shutting down at all. At reduced rotor speeds, the inverter air conditioner heats the room effectively even in severe frost. In this case, up to a third of electricity is saved. About 10% of the resources are used to heat the oil in the crater. Thus, icing of the outdoor unit and its hypothermia are excluded.
Although at 0 degrees outside, the efficiency of heating a room with inverter and non-inverter type air conditioners is the same, the lower the temperature, the better the inverters give out compared to “ordinary” counterparts.
So, to the question “can the air conditioner heat” with confidence, we give the answer “can”. But how effective and safe it is depends on the model of equipment.
