Types of control panels for split systems
Most air conditioners are controlled from a remote control, which can be of two types: remote wireless and wall-mounted. The first type is a separate device that has infrared emitters on the sides that give a signal to the photodetector of the air conditioner or indoor unit, if it is a split system.
It is very convenient to monitor the climate of the air conditioner from the remote control (remote control) - information about the current operating parameters is displayed on the panel of the indoor unit and on the remote display in the form of icons and digital symbols.
For semi-industrial and industrial systems, there are wall-mounted wire remotes, which more often come as an option to the climate kit. They are connected to the indoor unit of the split system using a cable and have a stationary type of placement, that is, are tied to one place. In public organizations, it is much easier to control the climate of air conditioners from a stationary remote control, since in this case its loss is excluded.
Main functions and their designations
What functions does the control panel have for a split system? It:
- setting the main operating modes: cooling, heating, ventilation, drainage, auto mode;
- installation of additional modes such as TURBO, air ionization, thawing, timer;
- setting the desired temperature;
- fan speed adjustment;
- setting the movement of the blinds (for some models of split systems, both horizontal and vertical slats are controlled by the remote control).
Any remote control from the air conditioner has standard notation for all modes and functions, which are applied to the buttons in the form of so-called icons (badges) or inscriptions and are displayed on the display panel.
For different manufacturers, the set of keyboard labels can vary greatly and even hide under the remote control panel.
What are the push-button symbols on the air conditioner remote control of a split system?
- On/Off or Power - start and shutdown of the device;
- Mode - setting the main modes (the next time you select the next mode);
- Swing and Air Direction - wiggle curtains and choice of direction;
- Fan - fan speed mode (pressing this icon again on the air conditioner remote control switches to a different rotation speed);
- Timer - start and shutdown mode at the set time;
- Sleep - sleep function, which is active only when heating or cooling;
- Clean air - air ionization;
- Turbo or Full Power - launch at maximum power;
- Display – viewing the current parameters on the display or its complete shutdown;
- Set or Ok - confirmation of the choice of parameters;
- Reset - reset all current settings;
- Lock - lock buttons.
An icon in the air conditioner Clean usually indicates the key responsible for additional cleaning (draining) of the indoor unit after operation. It helps to avoid the growth of bacteria in a humid environment, and, consequently, the appearance of a smell. Keys Led or Lighting not found on all split systems. They are responsible for the backlight of the display.
Additional notation
In addition to the listed buttons, there are also such icons in the air conditioner remotes as:
- «+"And"–»- responsible for setting the temperature or timer;
- triangles up and down - More often responsible for temperature parameters.
Some buttons are replaced by icons in the air conditioner controls initially.For instance, Timer indicated by a button with an image watch dial, and Display may mean "house with a thermometer". Often, the main modes are responsible for the icons from the air conditioner remote control, such as "Sun" - heat, "snowflake"- cold,"a bit"- drainage,"fan"- blowing without cooling and heating.
All these nuances are usually explained in the instructions for the air conditioner.
If the device is serviceable, when the buttons are pressed, the indicators light up, indicating the signal is transmitted to the indoor unit, and the corresponding icons or other symbolic symbols will be displayed on the indicator panel of the control panel from the air conditioner.
How to turn on the air conditioner without remote control
Any instruction for the air conditioner remote control tells how to turn on the device without it. Most split systems have the ability to control from the panel on the indoor unit. In some models, it is hidden under the top plastic plug. It must be removed and find the power button, which is additionally highlighted. Press the key and hold it a little. The device should work.
Since you can turn on the air conditioner without a remote control only in automatic mode, which does not always imply a change of cooling to heating, use this method only in emergency situations. To change the mode, the key is pressed twice.
The buttons for emergency control of the air conditioner may be located on the side of the indoor unit. They are signed by standard On/Off or Operation.
What is a universal remote
Since it is not very convenient to turn on the air conditioner without a remote control, in case of loss they acquire a universal device. It is suitable for the main part of air conditioners from well-known manufacturers, including split systems of Chinese brands. It can be controlled not only by modern, but also obsolete devices, as it is designed to replace any remote control device.
In order for the universal remote control for the air conditioner to work, it must be configured. Problems with this should not arise - it is done with one button. As a rule, a set of instructions is attached to this device that describes in detail how to reconfigure the remote control for a specific air conditioner model. This can be done in two ways.
- Manual setting. Button Select start flipping code ciphers on the display, each of which corresponds to a particular brand of split systems. Turning on the device indicates the selection of the appropriate code. After confirm the selection with Ok and check the performance of the remote;
- Automatic configuration is used if there is no cipher for the existing equipment in the list. Press Select and hold for several seconds until the remote control starts sending signals to the indoor unit and automatic code installation starts.
All universal remotes for the air conditioner support the same functions and modes as the usual original ones. They carry out full-fledged climate control of the split system.
All current information about the operation is displayed on the display, and the buttons have standard designations for the air conditioner remote control.
Remote mount
Many are used to the fact that the remote control devices are stored in any convenient place. It is because of this that they get lost or fail. It is much more convenient to use the mount for the remote control from the air conditioner, which is included in the kit. It is made in the form of a plastic cover fastened to the wall using small screws or nuts.
One of the options for attaching the air conditioner remote control can be the purchase of plastic sticky hooks-holders. These devices are universal and are suitable not only for remote control devices from climatic equipment.
If the mount for the air conditioner remote control is not included in the kit, you can do it yourself by fixing a suitable dowel-nail on the wall and hanging the device on it.
Possible malfunctions
What problems can users have with the remote control? More often, customers complain that the air conditioner does not respond to the remote control or that the functioning is only partially present. What are the causes of this problem?
First of all, they determine where the snag lies: in the control device itself or in the split system. If the remote control is working, then when you press any button, the LED flash will be visible. Then they look for problems in the operation of the blocks. The health of the internal module is checked by running without a remote control.
- You can try replacing the batteries with new ones, while strictly observing the polarity;
- Sometimes the reason that the air conditioner does not want to respond to the remote control is the presence of voltage problems in the network. It may not correspond to the required parameters or may have too frequent drops. Turn off the device completely and restart after 10 minutes. If this does not help, check the rated voltage. Sometimes the ingestion of small insects leads to circuit closure;
- Perhaps the problem is the failure of the diode located behind the transformer. It is advisable to replace it with a fast recovering one;
- On the evaporator, the thermistor could fail. It is replaced with a new one;
- Often the fuse on the control board burns out or, even worse, the board itself. This is eliminated by replacing it;
- The infrared signal detector located on the indoor unit may be malfunctioning. When changing, be sure to take into account the desired frequency;
- The room air temperature sensor or the sensor on the heat exchanger of the indoor module could become unusable;
- Sometimes the air conditioner does not respond to the remote control commands due to a banal failure in the settings after voltage drops in the network. They reset the parameters and install everything again until the system is transcoded.
If none of these options is suitable in any particular case, then contact the service department to make a “diagnosis” and carry out repair and restoration work.
