A single air conditioning system is gaining popularity, allowing you to install only one outdoor unit that will work on all devices in the house or apartment. Installation of multi-split systems is a costly and time-consuming process, but at the same time reliable and aesthetic.
Before ordering or buying climate equipment for the home, you need to decide on the varieties, cost, equipment. The quality of air conditioning and the longevity of the work depends on the installation materials built into the wall.
Options and types of multi-split systems
The industry produces two types of multisplits:
- with one compressor;
- with several compressors.
The difference is that the indoor units in the monocompressor air conditioner operate in the same mode - either heating or cooling. Multicompressor models are capable of simultaneously heating one room and cooling another.
It is possible to buy a standard set of internal hair dryers and an external unit. But most often, customers are offered to choose indoor units separately, based on the area of the premises, and then calculate the compressor power.
The power of the external unit should be 20% more than the total power of all internal ones.
Connection of a multi-split system is possible:
- with the same set of internal hair dryers - a fixed system in which 2 to 4 devices are connected to the compressor;
- using the dial-up method, connecting up to 16 devices at the same time by branching the pipe lines.
The only condition for correct operation is the power of the external unit. The typesetting method makes it possible to install various types of indoor air conditioners - floor, wall, ceiling, cassette, combining them into one cooling system.
Cons split system:
- stop all internal devices in case of breakdown of external equipment;
- problematic installation if the premises are ready for operation and repair work is completed;
- cost increase due to additional consumables.
The cost of one multisystem will cost more than installing single air conditioners.
Installation requirements
Installation of a multi-split system begins with a choice of location for installing an external unit. The length of the line along which freon will circulate separately to each internal hair dryer should not exceed the permissible values indicated in the manufacturer's instructions. Otherwise, the efficiency of the climate system will not be as declared.
Do not install the compressor in closed or half-closed rooms, because it will often overheat and turn off due to a lack of air for ventilation. This leads to premature wear of the equipment.
If the installation masters insist on the open installation of the main pipes, explaining this by the convenience for subsequent repairs, ask them to put expensive high-quality pipes, the warranty period of which is 30 years, and make the installation in the wall. Pipes will fail more quickly if they are exposed to regular temperature changes.
Powerful multisplit is a noisy device. Mounting it on a wall with windows is not recommended.
You also need to consider:
- the arrangement of furniture in the room so that the flow of cold air is not directed at the sleeping person, and the noise level;
- dripping condensate should not get on passers-by, the tube goes down so that there is no stagnation of water;
- the system must be connected to a separate shield and have its own electrical wiring;
- there should be no thermal contact between the cold and warm zone;
- The external module must be mounted below the internal ones so that there is no excessive consumption of electricity.
It is better to trust the development of a connection scheme for a multi-split system to professional installers who have experience in private homes, apartments, and offices. They often go to repair work and listen to reviews of people about the functioning of the systems. It is almost impossible for a beginner to do the job independently.
Tools for mounting a multi-split system
For the installation of multisplit air conditioning systems, the following set of tools is required:
- punchers, a grinder, a screwdriver, a drill with diamond crowns, a chamfer for work with walls and iron reinforcement;
- pipe cutter, rimmer for turning internal cuts, squeegee, rolling for working with pipes.
Specific equipment for filling and searching for leaks after filling freon:
- leak detector;
- filling cylinder;
- vacuum pump to remove vapors and air from the pipe.
Expendable materials:
- copper pipes for the main system and material for thermal insulation;
- electric cable and protective corrugation for it;
- coolant;
- brass brackets and nuts;
- silicone, mounting foam.
It is recommended that you connect the splitsystem yourself at least after one successful installation or dismantling of climate equipment or watching a detailed video on this topic.
Installation steps
The sequence of steps for installing a multi-split system:
- The first to lay an electric cable. The work is carried out at the stage of rough repair, as you will need to make room for the cable in the wall.
- Next, an external unit is installed according to all installation rules described in the instructions.
- Powerful punchers make holes in the wall for connecting the compressor and the indoor unit.
- Arrange highways in the walls.
- Connect the external device and indoor units with electric cables.
- Check the system for leaks.
- Using the pump, the remaining air is removed and the system is filled with refrigerant.
- Connect to the mains and connect.
After checking, isolate the set of wires between the outdoor and indoor units.
After installation, it is necessary to configure the control panel separately for each hair dryer. There is an option when one of the remote controls is made the main one, the rest have a secondary status.
When conducting electrical work, the whole house is de-energized. The cable is grounded.
The ground wire should be away from water sources, lightning rods. It is not permissible to touch the compressor on with wet hands. Internal work in the compressor is carried out only after it is turned off.
Installation of multisplit systems without experience in the installation of such structures is not recommended. A miscalculation in the scheme or improper installation of pipes will lead to frequent repairs of equipment and premises.
